Citi Appoints Head of Markets for Japan

A veteran with over 30 years of experience has been named as Citi’s new head of markets for Japan.

Citi has appointed Akira Hoshino as head of markets for Japan, according to a statement. He will be responsible for driving business growth and leading the markets franchise in the country, building on the bank’s global footprint and product offering. In the role, he will report to Paul Smith, head of markets for Japan, Asia North & Australia as well as Robert Nakamura, Citi country officer and banking head for Japan.

Hoshino has over 30 years of experience in markets trading globally and first joined Citi in 2019 as head of FX in addition to leading rates sales since 2022. Previously, he was head of global markets sales & trading at MUFG Bank, chairperson of the Tokyo Foreign Exchange Market Committee and vice chair of Global Foreign Exchange Committee (GFXC).
