Hot on the heels of the recent auction that produced the worlds most expensive handbag Christies Auction on the 2nd of June in Hong Kong labeled as Magnificent Jewels, achieved US$117,892,325 and three auction records.
With the recent stock market gains and the strong interest of Chinese buyers the latest Hong Kong auctions have been attracting global media interest as records tumble.
“Christie's Hong Kong established a new record for the most valuable jewellery auction ever held in Asia. The family collection of K’ung Hsiang-Hsi sold for US$14.6 m, 7 times its low estimate. More records were achieved for a ruby necklace, a Kashmir sapphire and a jadeite cabochon and collectors were mesmerized throughout the day bidding in any increment and as long as it took to try and acquire anything at the sale,” said Vickie Sek, Director of Christie’s Asia Jewellery Department.
