An expert in financial regulations has joined the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association as an advisor.

The Hong Kong Investment Funds Association (HKIFA) has appointed Stephen Po as an honorary advisor, according to a statement. In the newly created role, he will be responsible for providing expert advice and insights on regulatory matters in Hong Kong and mainland China related to the fund management industry.

Po has extensive experience in financial regulations, previously serving as executive director at the Hong Kong Insurance Authority and senior director at the Securities and Futures Commission. He was also a member of the International Advisory Council of the China Securities Regulatory Commission and the chairman of the International Organization of Securities Commissions Committee 3 on the regulation of market intermediaries.

He is currently an independent non-executive director of Citibank (Hong Kong) and China Securities as well as a member of the Hang Sang Index Advisory Committee.

«[Po’s] extensive experience in financial market regulation and his profound understanding of the regulatory landscapes in Hong Kong and the mainland China are invaluable assets to HKIFA as we continue to entrench Hong Kong’s position as an international fund management hub and a super connector between the Mainland China and the rest of the world,» said HKIFA chair Sam Yu.
