7. Margin Call (2011)
The fast-paced film traces 36 hours at a Wall Street investment bank as the financial crisis unfolds and threatens to take the bank down. Lehman Brothers is never mentioned, but overtones of the failed U.S. investment bank abound. Jeremy Irons as «John Tuld», a thinly-veiled reference to former Lehman CEO Dick Fuld, is masterfully villainous.
The cast of characters, despite being stocked with stars like Kevin Spacey, Demi Moore and Stanley Tucci, isn’t likable: one reviewer said a chocolate Labrador belonging to one of the characters was the movie’s most sympathetic creature.
