Amid accusations of broken promises and poor decisions from the bank, the Singapore based Global Head of Digital Marketing at Standard Chartered, has left the bank. Why?

Damien Cummings joined Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) in mid-2015 but his role has been made redundant «after a less than awesome time», according to a report in the media and marketing publication «Mumbrella»

Damien Cummings 160 w160Writing on LinkedIn, Cummings, (pictured left) said, «it isn’t one of those happy, I had an amazing time at my last employer blog posts». He said he only joined a bank because of what he described as too-good-to-be-true-promises given to him during the interview process. Prior to joining SCB he was Chief Marketing Officer at Philips ASEAN & Pacific. He has also worked at major brands including Samsung, Dell, Coca-Cola, NRMA and McKinsey & Company.

Industry Facing Oblivion

According to Cummings comments the banking industry is facing oblivion in the face of changing consumer needs and digital disruption.

Standard Chartered Bank declined to comment other than to confirm his departure. Cummings has since gone on to launch a HR tech start-up called Peoplewave.
