Ernesto Bertarelli’s family office Waypoint has made an appointment. The lawyer will also take a seat on the supervisory board.
Waypoint Capital, the firm which advises the Swiss-Italian Bertarelli family, appointed Ron Cami as group general counsel, according to a statement.
Cami will report to Waypoint Chairman and billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli and serve as a member on the board of directors. In Switzerland, Bertarelli is best known for his sporting ventures, financing Swiss sailing team Alinghi’s bid for the America’s Cup and winning the most prestigious trophy of the sport for the land-locked country. Some time ago he also acted as a director of the Board of Swiss bank UBS.
Future Development
Cami will work closely with Chief Operating Officer Stefan Meister, taking a central role to create and deliver the group’s strategy for future business development and growth.
Cami’s «appointment represents fantastic news for our group as we move forward with the next phase of its development,» said Bertarelli in the statement.
M&A Expert
The new general counsel previously worked at Davis Polk & Wardwell, where as a partner he worked in the Californian and New York offices and led the private equity business.
Cami is an expert relating to mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, joint ventures, shareholder activism and corporate governance. He is a visiting professor at Berkeley School of Law, where he teaches on the law of mergers and acquisitions.
Waypoint was founded in 2012 and has offices in Geneva, London, Jersey, Boston and Luxembourg. The group is holding stakes in known and established companies as well as in early-stage startups.
