The world’s fourth-largest bank by assets has appointed a former China Everbright banker to become its president.

Bank of China names Liu Jin as president and vice chairman, pending approval, according to a «Caixin» report (behind paywall) citing unnamed sources. The bank also internally announced that Liu was named as its deputy Communist Party chief.

Liu, 53, joins from China Everbright Bank where he was most recently its chief executive officer, after being appointed to the role in November 2019 as well as deputy secretary of the lender’s Communist Party committee. Prior to the promotion, Liu was an executive vice president with China Everbright Bank.

Liu succeeded Ge Haijiao who was named vice governor of North China’s Hebei province in September 2019.
