LeapFrog and its investment process will continue to be managed and controlled by its team of partners, with Temasek taking one non-executive seat on LeapFrog’s management board.
Australian-based impact investment group LeapFrog Investments has announced a strategic partnership with Singapore state investor Temasek, valued at $500 million.
Apart from committing to anchor LeapFrog's future funds, Temasek will take a minority stake in the company and provide growth capital to support the expansion of the LeapFrog team and investment capabilities across Asia and Africa, the announcement said.
Positive Outcomes
Impact investments are investments made with the intention to generate positive, measurable social and environmental impact alongside a financial return. While the industry is still in its infancy, New York-based nonprofit Global Impact Investing Network has estimated the size of the global impact investing market to be more than $500 billion.
«There is an urgent and pressing need to address the critical social and environmental challenges that the world is facing. We believe in the potential of impact investing to unlock the capital to meet these challenges,» Benoit Valentin, Temasek's head of impact investing, said.
Founded in 2007, LeapFrog’s companies have grown 30 percent per year and now reach 212 million people with essential healthcare and financial inclusion services. The firm aims to reach 1 billion people by 2030.
