The government belatedly jumps into the fray, prompting organizers to reverse their original decision on the marquee long-distance run.
The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon will be rescheduled to February 12 next year, according to a statement from the Hong Kong Association of Athletics Affiliates (HKAAA). It added that it was now receiving «full support» from the government following «constructive discussion with relevant parties».
This marks a reversal from the HKAAA’s announcement over the weekend stating it would cancel the event after indicating the government had failed to respond to a plea asking it to confirm the viability of the originally scheduled date on November 20.
