Hong Kong's reopening could be entering another gear with reported plans of offering hundreds of thousands of free plane tickets to lure visitors.

Hong Kong will give away 500,000 plane tickets for free to attract travellers to return, according to local media outlet «Singtao» in a report (Chinese only) citing unnamed sources.

This marks yet another sign of Hong Kong’s commitment to reopening and reconnecting with the rest of the world after it effectively scrapped hotel quarantine this week and reduced health surveillance from four to three days.

Future Plans

The report includes an anonymous government estimate that it will take one to two quarters for tourists to return to the city even after cancelling the remaining travel restrictions.

In addition, chief executive John Lee could announce a roadmap to normalization in his October policy address, barring a significant deterioration of Hong Kong's Covid status.
