Ex-Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng is reportedly seeking leniency in the 1MDB case, hoping to minimize his time in prison.
Roger Ng’s lawyers appealed to a New York court on Saturday and sought leniency for the ex-Goldman banker to be sentenced to the prison time he has already served in Malaysia. Ng had already spent six months in a Malaysian prison until 1 November 2018, according to a court filing.
«Stripped of his dignity in a Malaysian prison, he has been made to be sick, afraid, alone and hopeless, and still suffers the debilitating effects of [post-trauma stress disorder],» according to a «Reuters» report, citing the lawyers who also asked the judge to allow Ng to return to Malaysia where he is still subject to criminal charges.
Ng's sentencing hearing with the New York court is scheduled for 9 March 2023. In April 2022, a federal jury in Brooklyn convicted Ng of conspiring to violate anti-bribery laws and committing money laundering with a potential sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
