This weekend's auction offers a strategically curated selection of pieces that have come to define haute horology.

The first historic watch standalone Evening Sale hosted by Christie's in Hong Kong takes place on Saturday, May 22, with 18 timepieces that include «some of the most extraordinary creations in watchmaking history» going under the gavel.

Curated under the theme «The Legends of Time,» the auction has the potential to break the record in Asia, with a sale price of HKD 77,500,000 to HKD 200,600,000 ($9.9 million to $25.8 million), according to Christie's estimates.

Top lots of the sale include Patek Philippe and Rolex pieces in 18K gold.

Historically Significant

The auction will be complemented by the Day Sale, «An Exceptional Season of Watches,» which includes 47 lots of highly desirable vintage and modern watches, including 56 Patek Philippe and 36 Rolex watches, with an estimated sale price of HKD 80,801,000 to HKD 147,107,000 ($10.4 million to $18.9 million).

One of the featured lots of the Day Sale is a «horological treasure with tremendous provenance»: an F.P. Journe Chronometre Souverain in platinum (pictured above), a personal gift from the founder François-Paul Journe, to legendary watchmaker George Daniels.

The auction house is also holding an online sale of watches that will last from May 19 to June 2.
