Despite a slowing economy, most mainland Chinese lux consumers plan to increase spending next year, according to a report by MDRi outlining the market’s top trends.

More than half (56 percent) of mainland Chinese luxury consumers plan to increase their spending in 2025, according to a report by Hong Kong-based research firm MDRi.

Five top trends were highlighted in the report. First, consumers are prioritizing lifestyle-driven luxury, with 57 percent planning to boost spending on wellness, fitness and lux travel. Second, Shanghai remains the top shopping hub. Third, 56 percent are planning to buy more from Chinese lux brands. Fourth, sustainability is becoming a central value. Fifth, more are embracing tech-driven luxury with 90 percent willing to pay a premium for innovative products.

«Mainland China is currently experiencing a dynamic shift in luxury market. The strong consumer demand for luxury watches, handbags, jewelry, and travel experiences positions these categories as key growth drivers for the industry,» commented MDRi CEO Simon Tye.
