After four years of building up the advisory business at Maybank, the head of Asia investment banking is resigning.
Giles Ong joined Maybank Kim Eng Group as Regional Head, Investment Banking and Advisory in 2012. He was responsible for Maybank Kim Eng's investment banking and advisory business which includes corporate finance, debt capital markets, equity capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and strategic advisory. Ong, 46, tendered his resignation last week, according to an e-mail he sent on Monday to colleagues that was obtained by «Bloomberg News». In a telephone interview, he confirmed the contents of the message.
Focused on Cross-Border Mergers
He will remain at the Kuala Lumpur-based company through April. His plans are not known.
Ong has 15 years of investment banking experience. Prior to joining Maybank Kim Eng, he was with Citigroup in Singapore from 2004 to 2011. Before joining Citigroup, he worked for Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, where he primarily focused on cross-border mergers and acquisitions out of their Singapore offices.
Prior to investment banking, Giles worked for the Singapore Economic Development Board.
