Kuala Lumpur-headquartered Maybank has appointed a 27-year industry veteran as the head of is wealth management group.

Maybank has appointed Alice Tan Siew Hwee as head of group wealth management (GWM), according to a statement, effective August 1. In the role, she will lead Maybank’s group wealth management business covering the privilege wealth, premier wealth, private wealth and Islamic wealth segments.  

Tan will report to both group CEO of community financial services and CEO of Maybank Singapore. She will also retain her existing role as head of wealth management, Singapore. 

27-Year Veteran

Tan has more than 27 years of experience in the financial sector, including over 16 years in private banking. She began her career in 1997 with the now-defunct Overseas Union Bank. She would go on to work at UOB Asset Management, Allianz Dresdner Asset Management and Societe Generale Asset Management before kickstarting her private banking career with Coutts & Co.  

She served as deputy head of client portfolio managers, Asia at Credit Suisse before joining Maybank Singapore in 2014. 

Business Achievement

At Maybank, Tan established an investment consulting function and implemented the investment advisory model in 2014. Under her leadership, the business broke even within its first year of operations.

Thereafter, she was appointed as head of private wealth Singapore and led continuous growth over the last seven years, increasing revenue by 185 percent and financial assets by 150 percent to S$9.5 billion ($7.1 billion). Upon being named head of wealth management Singapore, Tan had oversight of three wealth segments and led them to achieve S$176 million of revenue within six months, up 64 percent year-on-year.
