State Street hires a former BNP Paribas executive to lead its business in the Asia Pacific region, according to a statement.
Mostapha Tahiri joins State Street as its head of Asia Pacific, succeeding Ian Martin, who was named global head of the asset owner segment. In his new Singapore-based role, Tahiri will report to Andrew Erickson, chief productivity officer and CEO of State Street’s international business, and Francisco Aristeguieta, CEO of State Street Institutional Services.
Tahiri also joins State Street’s most senior strategic and policymaking management committee.
Prior to joining State Street, Tahiri spent over 20 years with BNP Paribas including his most recent role as its APAC CEO of securities services.
Head of China
The Boston-headquartered firm also hired Joanne Chen as its head of China with responsibilities like driving strategy, developing talent, pursuing growth opportunities as well as managing relationships with Chinese clients, partners, officials and regulators. In her new Beijing-based role, Chen reports to Tahiri.
A fellow BNP Paribas exec herself, Chen was most recently with the French financier as head of China financial institutions coverage. Previously, she had also worked with Deutsche Bank as its head of China strategy management and head of private wealth and commercial clients.
«Asia Pacific has been a growth engine for State Street since it established its presence in the region more than 40 years ago,» Tahiri said in the statement. «With regulatory liberalization, relaxation in restrictions for global asset managers, and the growth of onshore domestic assets, China offers a long-term growth opportunity for State Street.»
