She takes over the role from Remko Witteveen, who was interim head until October 2021, when he left ING to return home to the Netherlands.
ING has appointed Singapore-based veteran banker Anju Abrol as head of wholesale banking for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, effective 1 November, according to a statement on Thursday.
Abrol, 57, was most recently CEO and executive director of 1Derlife Investment Management, a venture capital fund she co-founded that invests predominantly in digital-first businesses in the U.S. Her last banking role was as chief risk officer for Westpac Institutional Bank (2016-2018) and for its international business (2014-2016), before which she spent almost 16 years at Bank of America.
She will report to Andrew Bester, global head of ING wholesale banking, and will be responsible for driving ING’s strategy in Asia Pacific and the performance of the wholesale banking business across our 11 markets in the region.
Stalwart Departs
Abrol takes over from Krista Baetens, who left ING at the end of 2020, after a 23-year career at the bank that spanned multiple roles in Asia, the Americas and Europe.
