Hong Kong-based Swiss investment manager HSZ Group’s chairman and founder will retire after establishing the business more than two decades ago.

HSZ Group chairman and founder Dr. Hansrudolf Schmid retires from active management due to health reasons, according to a statement.

Schmid’s duties will be taken over by Stefan Kräuchi who joined HSZ Group in Hong Kong in 20212 and has been its CEO and China fund co-portfolio manager since 2014. 

HSZ Group History

HSZ Group was founded in 2000 as part of a management buyout from HSBC Guyerzeller Bank AG in Zurich after first managing large equity portfolios invested in Asian markets in 1994 and establishing a Hong Kong office in 1999.

Schmid was a management member of HSBC Guyerzeller Bank AG from 1993 to 2000. Previously he was also a partner of the Zurich-based BZ Group and an investment banker with Salomon Brothers.

Kräuchi joined in March 2012 after decades of experience with the likes of UBS, AIG and Clariden Leu in Switzerland, Luxembourg, Japan and the U.S.

China Equities

In addition to the succession, HSZ Group will also expand its China equities team with the hire of Wenjie Ge will be named executive director on January 1 next year.

Ge has 12 years of equity research experience for North Asian markets, including China, on both the buy and sell-side. He was most recently working for Capital Group since 2013 in Tokyo and Hong Kong after a stint with Nomura.
