UOB Malaysia has named its first female chief executive officer to succeed Wong Kim Choong.
Ng Wei Wei has been appointed CEO of UOB Malaysia, according to a statement, effective May 1.
She succeeds Wong Kim Choong who has held the role since 2012 and will remain with the bank as a senior advisor, in part to oversee the integration of the recently acquired retail banking business from Citi.
First Female
Ng’s appointment marks the first female selected for the top role at UOB Malaysia.
Ng is a seasoned banker that worked for UOB Malaysia from 2000 to 2006 before leaving to take on various leadership roles at global financial institutions in Malaysia and Hong Kong. In 2019, she returned to UOB Malaysia as country head of wholesale banking before becoming its deputy CEO in 2021.
