Tokyo-headquartered lender Nomura has reportedly made three senior hires in the region, including the vice-chairman of China investment banking.

Wu Sheng joins Nomura as its vice-chairman of China investment banking, according to an «SCMP» report citing several internal memos from Asia ex-Japan head of investment banking Patrick Kwan and head of China investment banking Erik Tung.

Wu is a 25-year veteran and he joins from China Merchants Bank International. Previously, he also worked at Barclays and Morgan Stanley.  

Tech, Infrastructure, Healthcare

In addition, the Japanese lender also hired ex-Citi banker Jason Zhang to focus on sustainable technology and infrastructure companies and projects in China. He was most recently the chief financial officer at Phoenix Tree Holdings. 

Wayne Yue rejoins Nomura’s China investment banking unit to focus on deal-making with healthcare companies. Yue was most recently the head of structured finance and investment banking services at Shenwan Hongyuan.

Wu, Zhang and Yue all report to Tung.

In 2020, Nomura enhanced its sustainability-related capabilities with the acquisition of boutique investment bank Greentech Capital Advisors. which focuses on supporting clients across sustainable technology and infrastructure.
