HSBC Asset Management has appointed the former chief investment officer for its Turkey unit to lead its Asia multi-asset team.

HSBC Asset Management names Yiğit Onat as head of multi-asset, Asia, according to a statement, effective June 20 and subject to regulatory approval.

Based in Hong Kong, Onat reports functionally to global multi-asset CIO Jean Charles Bertrand and locally to APAC CIO Cecilia Chan.

He will be responsible for a six-strong multi-asset team in Hong Kong, which manages HSBC AM’s flagship life cycle, income and MPF multi-asset solutions. He will also be supported by more than 70 professionals in 14 markets.

Onat has over 20 years of experience, most recently as CIO for HSBC AM Turkey where he led a team of 10 portfolio managers and investment analysts focusing on globally diversified wealth management and multi-asset funds for pension and insurance companies. Previously, he was the head of equities in Turkey and lead manager of a fund focused on Turkish equities. 

Onat succeeds Denis Gould, who currently leads the multi-asset & wealth team in Hong Kong, and will retire from HSBC AM on August 31.
