The head of the Swiss National Bank's branch office in Singapore is returning to Switzerland to take on a role in Zurich.
On December 1, Marco Huwiler becomes the Swiss National Bank's (SNB) regional economic delegate for Zurich, returning from Singapore where he headed the central bank's regional office, according to a statement from the SNB Tuesday. He succeeds Fabian Schnell who left the SNB in October.
Huwiler will be one of eight delegates for regional economic relations that represent the SNB in various regions of Switzerland. Similar to the US Federal Reserve's «Beige Book», the SNB delegates maintain regular contact with companies from various industries, providing the governing board with an assessment of the economic situation in their region
Conversely, they also brief their respective regions about the SNB's monetary policy, with the latest report available for the third quarter.
New York Fed
Huwiler joined the SNB in 1998, joining as a research assistant, and has since held various positions. In addition to the Singapore role, he worked at a Swiss private bank and was also the SNB representative at the New York Fed, and also served as head of financial market analysis.
When he took over the Singapore position in 2019, Huwiler replaced Martin Schlegel, who was since appointed vice-chairman of the SNB in August.
