Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission has announced the appointment of a new chief executive officer.
Current deputy chief Julia Leung has been named CEO of the SFC, according to a statement, effective 1 January 2023. She succeeds incumbent chief Ashley Alder and will serve a three-year term.
Leung joined the SFC in 2015 as an executive director overseeing the investment products division before being named deputy CEO in March 2018.
«[Leung] is well respected by her peers, colleagues and stakeholders alike for her vision and insights, regulatory knowledge and professionalism, and has proven track records in managing highly-complex regulatory issues and pioneering regulatory initiatives,» said SFC chairman Tim Lui.

In July, Alder announced that he would step down early as SFC CEO to take on the new role as the chair of UK’s Financial Conduct Authority in January 2023.
«I am delighted and honored to be the next CEO of the SFC, and I look forward to working closely with colleagues and the board to build on the SFC’s success under the outstanding leadership of [Alder] during his 11-year tenure at the SFC,» Leung said.
«As the SFC enters its third decade, the Commission will redouble its effort to continue delivering as a world-class market regulator.»
