The Asian arm of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group has hired a 40-year veteran to bolster its capabilities in underwriting, reinsurance and risk engineering.
MSIG Asia appoints Victorio Villar as senior vice president and head of technical services, according to a statement, based in Singapore. In his new role, Villar’s remit will cover 13 countries and 15 MSIG business units in all 10 ASEAN countries alongside Hong Kong and Oceania.
A chemical engineer by training, Villar has over 40 years of experience in APAC, Middle East and North Africa, underwriting complex property risks and building large portfolios. Prior to joining MSIG, Villar supported Allianz Group in establishing its property portfolio in Asia.
«As we gain momentum and seek new areas of growth, [Villar’s] in-depth knowledge for underwriting, reinsurance and risk engineering will make a huge difference to our operations,» said MSIG Asia chief executive Clemens Philippi.
«In today’s challenging and dynamic environment, it has never been more essential for insurers to build a resilient underwriting framework to mitigate volatility and create real value to all stakeholders,» Villar added.
