Standard Chartered has announced the appointment of a North Asia head of private banking alongside three hires for the region.
Peter Tung has been appointed regional head, private banking, Greater China and North Asia (GCNA) at Standard Chartered, according to a statement. Based in Hong Kong, he reports to Hong Kong CEO Mary Huen and global head of private & affluent clients Raymond Ang. Tung will also join the Hong Kong management committee as a member.
Tung has nearly 30 years of experience servicing ultra-high net worth (UHNW) and family office clients in Hong Kong and mainland China. He was most recently working at DBS as the head of the Greater China region for private bank and treasures private clients. Previously, he also worked at UBS and Morgan Stanley covering UHNW clients in the region.
Hong Kong Market Heads
In August 2022, the bank hired Kin Chan and Ivan Ching, both as Hong Kong market heads of private banking, reporting to Tung.
Chan has over 20 years of banking experience in Hong Kong, most recently at DBS Private Bank where he spent five years, last as a managing director and senior market head for Greater China international and non-resident India, leading a team of 60. Previously, he also worked at Prudenntial Securities, Solomon Smith Barney, Citi, UBS and Nomura.
Ching rejoins Standard Chartered after 30 years of banking experience, most recently as a China market leader at BNP Paribas. Prior to that, he worked at UBS and Credit Suisse.
Investment Advisory
In addition to the front office, the bank has also named Chris Tong as head, investment advisory, private banking, GCNA. Based in Hong Kong, Tong reports to Tung and Vic Malik, global head of structured solutions & investment advisory.
Tong has over 18 years of experience, including the last five years as a senior investment advisor for Greater China at Standard Chartered. Previously, he also held various investment and capital market advisory roles at HSBC, Barclays, Credit Suisse and Citi Private Bank.
