German insurer Munich Re has announced the appointment of a new chief executive officer for life and health in the Middle East and North Africa.
Munich Re appoints Owais Ansari as CEO, life & health, Middle East and North Africa (MENA), according to a statement, effective September 1 and subject to regulatory approval. Based in Dubai, he reports to Daniel Cossette, CEO Munich Re life & health Asia Pacific Middle East and Africa.
In the role, Ansari will also be responsible for Munich Re-owned businesses, MR HealthTech and MedNet.
23-Year Veteran
Ansari has over 23 years of experience in life and health insurance as well as Takaful business, a type of Islamic insurance. Prior to joining Munich Re, he was the executive board deputy chair of Munich-headquartered FWU AG where he worked since 2009.
Ansari will succeed Frank Mayer who is retiring from his current role at the end of the year. He led Munich Re’s life & health reinsurance business, MR HealthTech and MedNet across the MENA region for the past 17 years.
