New York-based Goldman Sachs has announced the appointment of a co-country head and investment banking head for Korea.

Goldman Sachs has appointed Jaehoon Ahn as head of investment banking in Korea, co-country head of Korea, and co-branch manager of the US lender’s Seoul branch, according to a statement. He joins the bank in mid-August as a managing director.

In his investment banking role, Ahn will work closely with Edward Byun, who had interim responsibility for Korea investment banking. He is co-head of Asia ex-Japan equity capital markets at the bank and will continue to have a leadership role as a member of the Korea leadership group. Seok Yong Lee will continue to serve as chief operating officer for the unit.

As co-country head and co-branch manager, alongside Jae Joon Choi, Ahn will work closely with division heads in Seoul to execute the firm’s strategy and oversee all of the activities undertaken by the Seoul office concerning clients, people, strategy and the ongoing build-out of the platform in Korea. Choi is also head of Korea FICC and equities.

Ahn joins the bank from biotech company SK Bioscience where he served as vice president and head of strategic planning and corporate development.

Previously, he spent 13 years leading global investment banking firms in Seoul and was responsible for client coverage of Korean corporates and financial sponsors.
