London-based HSBC has named a female as its chief financial officer for the first time ever since its establishment more than a century and a half ago.
HSBC has appointed Pam Kaur as group chief financial officer (GCFO) and executive director of the bank's board, according to a statement, effective 1 January 2025.
Kaur has nearly 40 years of experience, having worked for various international banks in the UK and the US. She joined HSBC in April 2013 as group head of audit and served on the group executive committee for over a decade. She is currently group chief risk and compliance officer.
«I would like to congratulate Pam on her appointment as GCFO. She is highly respected and well known to the Board and was the unanimous choice,» commented HSBC group chairman Mark Tucker.
Personnel Reshuffle
Meanwhile, Jon Bingham, interim GCFO, will resume his role as global financial controller. The bank will announce a successor to Kaur’s role as group chief risk and compliance officer in due course.
«We had a strong bench of internal and external candidates to choose from and Pam was the exceptional candidate to recommend to the Board,» said HSBC group CEO Georges Elhedery, who was the bank’s former GCFO. «I look forward to partnering with her for the next stage of the Bank’s growth and development.»
Kaur becomes the first female chief financial officer in HSBC’s 159-year history.
