As the environment becomes more challenging Melbourne based ANZ has implemented a group wide halt on external hiring.
According to the Australian news site AFR, (paywall), ANZ bank is determined to cut costs. Chief Executive Shayne Elliott is said to head a tight team of senior executives who will approve any urgent recruitment requests. The restriction on hiring however is only one part of the banks efforts to control and reduce expenditure as other day to day overheads such as travel are also alleged to be under fire.
ANZ has gone through numerous management changes and faced several legal issues since the start of the year.
