Former BSI banker Yeo Jiawei has been found guilty on four counts of perverting the course of justice. He stands trial for seven other charges including money-laundering and cheating next April.
Yeo Jiawei, 33, was arrested on March 17 in connection with Singapore's largest money laundering probe linked to the Malaysian wealth fund 1MDB.
A report in the «Business Times» states a court in Singapore Wednesday found that while he was released on bail earlier this year, Yeo had urged witnesses to lie to investigators about his and the bank's involvement with Malaysia's scandal-engulfed 1MDB fund.
Yeo's is the first conviction by trial, though two of his former Banca della Svizzera Italiana colleagues pled guilty ahead of their court dates.
Three BSI Bankers Guilty
Last week, former BSI senior banker Yvonne Seah Yew Foong was sentenced to two weeks behind bars and handed a $10,000 fine.
Her conviction followed that of her BSI colleague and line boss Yak Yew Chee, who is currently serving an 18-week jail term after pleading guilty in November to similar offences.
Yeo, who during his trial has sought to implicate his former bosses at the Swiss bank, also faces seven other charges including money-laundering and cheating, which will be heard at a trial in April 2017.
He and others devised a scheme of kickbacks for their personal accounts from 1MDB business, a former colleague testified for the prosecution, describing a lavish lifestyle funded by these payments.
