M&G Real Estate, the real estate fund management arm of M&G Investments, has announced the appointment of a new Head of Research, Asia.

Jonathan Hsu joins the company as Head of Research, Asia, in the new role he will report to Chiang Ling Ng, Chief Executive and Chief Investment Officer of M&G Real Estate Asia, the firm said in a statement today.

Hsu has more than 10 years of Asia Pacific real estate market experience. Prior to joining M&G, he was Associate Director at Invesco Real Estate Hong Kong, responsible for conducting market studies and presenting market views, forecasts, and key fund strategies to investors.

He has also held various senior positions at CBRE, Barclays and UBS in Hong Kong.

Based in Singapore, Hsu will drive the provision of research focusing on real estate markets in the Asia Pacific region, as well as helping inform the investment management team in making strategic and tactical investments across Asia Pacific markets for the M&G managed property portfolios, including the Asia property strategy.

Big in Japan

Working closely with the wider research team based in London, Hsu will assist investment managers employing global investment strategies.

M&G Real Estate Asia manages in excess of $4 billion and employs 50 people in offices across Singapore, Tokyo and Seoul. M&G’s core Asia portfolio remains one of the largest, core, open ended institutional property funds solely investing in Asia Pacific with 22 assets across five countries.

As part of its core Asia strategy M&G Real Estate recently invested in a Japanese logistics development, its second foray into the country in a matter of months.
