Deutsche Bank has appointed a new head to lead its Australian operations and replace retiring chief executive Michael Ormaechea.

The new CEO, Anthony Miller was most recently a partner at Goldman Sachs based in Hong Kong and Co-Head of the Financing Group for Asia Pacific within the investment banking division.

He was based in Sydney for Goldman Sachs and ran the bank’s financing group before moving to Hong Kong five years ago.

Between 2001 and 2007, he was Head of Credit Capital Markets/Liability Management. Before joining Goldman Sachs, Miller worked at Credit Suisse. He started his career in Sydney as a commercial lawyer.

As Chief Executive Officer, Miller will oversee all of Deutsche Bank’s activities in Australia.

Critical Regional Experience

Miller will be based in Sydney and report to Werner Steinmüller, Deutsche Bank’s Chief Executive Officer for Asia Pacific and member of the Management Board, and to James McMurdo, Head of the Corporate & Investment Bank Asia Pacific.

In a statement to finews.asia Steinmüller said Miller was chosen primarily for his experience working across the region.

Deutsche has around 750 employees in Australia, and is a leading bank in fixed income, foreign exchange, interest rates, equities and corporate finance, with a growing global transaction banking business.
