Credit Suisse said it is hiring a prominent private equity executive and former long-standing banker with UBS as a senior advisor in Japan.
Zurich-based Credit Suisse said it is hiring Tsunehiro Watabe as a senior advisor in Tokyo.
Currently chairman of CVC Capital Partners, Watabe will be tasked with identifying investment banking as well as wealth management business, the Swiss bank said.
The hire of Watabe, who spent nearly 40 years at UBS, is a coup for Credit Suisse, which has seen mixed results from its wider Asia business in recent months.
Veteran Banker
At UBS, Watabe built up private banking in Japan, and he was involved in the management buyout of restaurant chain Skylark in 2006 – the largest MBO in Japan at the time – the merger of Hoya and Pentax, and Ricoh's purchase of Ikon Office Solutions.
«Moreover, Mr. Watabe’s extensive knowledge and experience of the Swiss private banking business will enable him to advise clients on relevant opportunities,» Credit Suisse said.
Credit Suisse's private bank in Japan, the second-largest wealth market in the world, encompasses Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya.
