3. Urs Rueegsegger – Misunderstood CEO
After running SIX Group for nearly ten years, Urs Rueegsegger's decision to leave was his own, but his tenure was anything but laudable. The utility's shareholders, particularly UBS with CEO Sergio Ermotti, were unhappy with SIX's strategic direction, and weren't shy about saying so publicly. Rueegsegger himself refers to his stint as mixed.
The 58-year-old CEO had to endure SIX's board refurbishing the exchange operator's strategy even before he had left, but Rueeggsegger had tarried too long, and to little tangible effect. Meanwhile, SIX had grown to cumbersome size, and not efficient enough for its bank shareholders. Rueeggsegger has said he doesn't want another operating job, but he is likely to pop up in one or the other well-paid bank board gigs.
