A set of three Bicentennial notes was sold at a charity auction for $36,199.
Singapore's Bicentennial notes that fetched well over 600 times their S$60 face value had belonged to Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. The former Prime Minister sold off his set at a charity lunch for Arc Children’s Centre on Sunday, where he was the guest of honor.
The centre supports children with cancer and life-threatening illnesses. «CDL won the silent auction for my donation of uncut bicentennial S$20 notes with a bid of $36,199. Why this particular number? ‘3’ is for the 3 notes and ‘6199’ is the last four digits of the third note,» said Goh in a Facebook post.
The uncut sheet of three was initially sold by the Singapore Mint for S$280 per set. Just 5,000 sets of these commemorative sheets have been made, and all of them are sold out.
