Asset Manager Aberdeen Standard has made an internal appointment to strengthen its local team, which it says is part of its strategy to strengthen and recognize talents.

Aberdeen Standard Investments has appointed Garreth Innes as head of its fixed income team in Australia, a role based in Sydney, the firm announced in a statement on Thursday.

Innes, who joined the firm in 2011, brings 10 years of experience in macro credit strategy and global asset allocation, with extensive research experience across investment grade and high yield corporates.

Growing Interest

He will lead the team that manages Australian fixed income portfolios with an active investment approach and contribute local market insights to ASI’s global fixed income mandates, the statement said. Innes reports to Adam McCabe, head of fixed income – Asia and Australia.

ASI noted the growing interest among domestic and regional investors in the firm's Australian bond strategies.

Diversified Source of Returns

«In the current low-yield environment, the Australian bond market offers global investors a diversified source of returns, with relatively attractive yields from defensive, quality credits, and supported by strong economic fundamentals,» McCabe said. ASI's global fixed income team collectively manages $171 billion.
