The firm is strengthening its Asia Pacific distribution team to drive client-led growth in the region.
Aberdeen Standard Investments has appointed David Hanzl as head of wholesale, Asia Pacific, responsible for delivering ASI’s wholesale distribution strategy and building out its wholesale franchise in the region, the firm announced on Thursday.
Based in Hong Kong, Hanzl joins Aberdeen after 22 years at UBS, where he was head of UBS Asset Management's regional operating office for Asia Pacific since 2014, as well as global wholesale business manager from 2016 to 2019.
Institutional Sales Support
Aberdeen also appointed Sean Lee (pictured above) as head of institutional sales, Southeast Asia, a role he will hold in addition to head of consultant relations, Asia Pacific.
Based in Singapore, Lee will continue to lead the regional consultant relations team, while also responsible for broadening and deepening the company’s institutional client base and bringing more customised outcome-oriented solutions to address the investment needs of Southeast Asian asset owners, Aberdeen said.
Lee has 20 years’ asset management experience in Asia Pacific. Before joining Aberdeen in 2009, Lee held senior sales and leadership roles at Credit Suisse and National Australia Bank.
Sustainable Solutions
According to Andrew Hendry, Aberdeen head of distribution, Asia Pacific, clients are increasingly seeking sustainable and outcome-oriented solutions to meet their financial goals.
In July, the firm announced several initiatives to drive sustainability across Asia Pacific, as sustainable investing gains momentum in the region, such as establishing a new APAC Sustainability Institute, led by Danielle Welsh-Rose, ESG investment director, Asia Pacific, and growing its team of ESG specialists in the region.
