The city government is reportedly ready to make a final decision on a new and reduced quarantine process for arrivals.

The Hong Kong government is expected to make a decision on the new quarantine process for travelers entering the city in the next one to two weeks, according to a report by local media «Sing Tao Daily» that cited unnamed sources.

As part of the new process, the government may also roll out a new health code similar to the system being used in China, which bars individuals with Covid-19 or those under quarantine from being able to access high-risk areas such as restaurants where masks can be removed while eating. It is considering cutting hotel quarantine stays to five days followed by two days of limits on entering high-risk areas or four days of hotel quarantine and three days of similar restrictions.

Earlier this month, the city's newly appointed health minister Lo Chung-mau raised the possibility of quarantine-free travel resuming in November, when the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) intends to host a global banking summit that is currently being planned.
