Former FTX chief Sam Bankman-Fried has been slapped with another charge by US authorities over alleged bribes to Chinese officials.
US authorities have charged Sam Bankman-Fried with «conspiracy to violate the anti-bribery provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act» over bribes of at least $40 million to Chinese officials, according to an updated indictment filing signed by US attorney Damian Williams.
The payments were made after Chinese officials froze $1 billion in crypto trading accounts in early 2021 that were controlled by FTX affiliate Alameda.
This marks the 13th criminal charge Bankman-Fried faces in the US in addition to wire fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering and election finance violations. The fallen crypto entrepreneur, who was arrested in the Bahamas in December 2021, has pleaded not guilty.
