The Swiss bank Maerki Baumann aims to leverage the growth in the Middle East by opening a branch in Abu Dhabi, focusing on blockchain technology.
The Zurich-based private bank Maerki Baumann plans to establish a branch in Abu Dhabi, according to a statement released on Monday. To proceed, the bank will apply for a license with the regulatory authority of the Abu Dhabi Global Market free trade zone.
The new Middle East Hub will target tech corporate clients in the Gulf region who specialize in blockchain technology and crypto applications. The family-owned firm will build on its expertise in digital assets, recently consolidated under the crypto brand «ARCHIP.»
Heading Abu Dhabi
Andreas Fröhlicher (pictured above), Head of Legal & Compliance, has been appointed to lead the Abu Dhabi branch. Since the launch of the crypto strategy in 2019, Fröhlicher has been instrumental in his current role.
Over 500 Tech Corporate Clients
Stephan Zwahlen, CEO of Maerki Baumann, stated, «Our presence in Abu Dhabi will allow us to tap into the significant potential of the dynamic Middle Eastern market. We look forward to bringing our expertise, gained from serving over 500 tech corporate clients, to support the local crypto community by offering our trusted banking services.»
«My previous role at the private bank, my contacts with headquarters in Zurich, and my international experience will be key factors in successfully establishing the Middle East Hub,» said Fröhlicher, who will report to Lukas Risi, Deputy CEO and Head of Private Banking.
Operating Under the «ARCHIP» Brand
The Middle East Hub will operate under the «ARCHIP» brand, which Maerki Baumann launched in March 2024. ARCHIP encompasses all crypto services the bank has developed, including trading, custody, staking, and management of digital assets for both private and institutional clients.
It also offers a full range of services in payment processing, liquidity management, and investment advisory for tech firms.
