London-based HSBC's chairman Mark Tucker will reportedly lead a UK delegation to China with the goal of improving business ties.

HSBC chairman Mark Tucker will lead a British business delegation to China in January 2025, according to a «Reuters» report citing unnamed sources. The aim is to revive the «UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogue» – a forum for discussions on trade, investment and other economic issues – with a particular focus on financial services.

«The Chancellor [Rachel Reeves] will visit Beijing in the new year to discuss economic and financial cooperation with her counterpart, Vice Premier He Lifeng. Further details will be announced in the usual way in due course and we would not comment on speculation before such a time,» a spokesperson for the UK Treasury said.

The last time the dialogue was held was in 2019 before it was suspended in 2020 after Beijing imposed a national security law in Hong Kong. The upcoming meeting will be an attempt to improve UK-China ties under the new Labor Government.
