A Singapore-based company with 250 employees in the Lion City gets recognition for focus on people and skills.
Firmenich, a world leader in developing and marketing fragrance and flavors, has been honoured for its dedication to the development of the local workforce, as finews.asia can report.
The Singapore based company which promotes strong partnerships with local universites, has evolveld as the winner of the inaugural SwissCham Award 2017 for Excellence in People & Skills Development.
The award which was presented on Saturday by SwissCham chairman Tom Ludescher recognizes outstanding contributions in upgrading skills of employees.
Recognising Different Cultures
Firmenich was founded in Geneva (Switzerland) in 1895. The company has created many of the world’s best known perfumes and flavors. The firm is holding about 2,500 patents in that field. Being a major player in the fragrance and flavor industry, it employs around 6,500 people worldwide, of which about 250 are based in Singapore.
«This award reinstates the importance of recognising different cultures in the region and their skills to create the passion within our fragrance and flavor industry,» Rajan Arul, General Manager and Vice President Perfumery (Asia), said.
Dual-Educational System
«Swiss companies have a long-standing tradition in people and skills development», explained Ludescher. «The dual-educational system, i.e. people choose between university education or an accredited apprenticeship on the job to become a specialist in one particular field. Strong industry training initiatives have substantially contributed to the skills clusters of world reference,» he added.
This approach, fully embraced by Firmenich, is most relveant to Singapore, according to Ludescher.
