11. The Role Model
She is the grand dame of wealth management in Asia: Kathryn, or «Kathy», Shih, president of UBS in Asia Pacific for the past two years, a bank she joined more than 30 years ago – in 1987. At that time, wealth management in the region was hardly more than «investing money and walking the dogs of the clients,» she once confessed. She was never shy to put all her energy into professional wealth management in Asia, based on Swiss values such as trust, long-term thinking, discretion and performance. That is how she doubled the client's assets under management in Asia.
Neither the financial crisis when UBS faced near-death and had to be rescured by the Swiss taxpayers, nor a scandal related to a minister of a state in Malaysia who was suspected of having laundered money that ended up in UBS accounts, or the 1MDB case could not damage her strong reputation.
