7. The Decision-Maker
«A career at Citi is a marathon, not a sprint,» Citigroup's head of China since 2016 says. Christine Lam should know. She started out at Citi more than three decades ago, rising in the U.S. bank's male-dominated tech ranks. One of the biggest challenges over the years for Lam, now based in Shanghai, was finding time for her son, leading to a decision at one point to cut back on business travel.
To her surprise, her manager supported her, and they worked out a plan so the business wouldn’t suffer. Today, she tells that story as an example of the importance of making conscious choices about work-life balance.
