After a flurry of openings globally, the historic hotel brand will open its second «ultra-luxurious» Singapore hotel on Sentosa island in 2022.
Some 135 years after the opening of the iconic Raffles Hotel, Singapore will get another – The Raffles Sentosa Resort & Spa Singapore, French hospitality group Accor, which owns the Raffles brand, announced on Thursday.
The villa-only hotel, which will be designed by studio Yabu Pushelberg and built by Royal Group on the luxury island resort Sentosa, is expected to open its doors to guests in 2022. Each of its 61 villas will have its own courtyard and swimming pool with a suspended daybed, the developer said. Rooms are likely to be priced between S$875-S$2,500, «Business Insider» reported.
«Raffles Sentosa Resort & Spa Singapore will return the brand to the beach and create a modern resort experience that captures the balance of tradition and modernity in a serene and idyllic setting,» Michael Issenberg, chairman and CEO of Accor Asia Pacific, said.
International Growth
Armenian hoteliers the Sarkies Brothers established the original colonial-style luxury hotel on Beach Road – which was then the city's waterfront – in 1887. The brand has changed hands several times in the past two decades while developing internationally. It now operates 14 hotels worldwide.
Since Accor purchased FRHI Holdings, which manages the Raffles, Fairmont and Swissôtel hotel brands, in 2016, it has opened the Raffles Maldives Meradhoo, Raffles Shenzhen, and announced two upcoming projects in India – Raffles Udaipur and Raffles Jaipur. The 32-villa Raffles Bali, located at Jimbaran Bay, is also expected to open in 2020.
The original Raffles Hotel was designated a national monument in 1987. It closed for extensive renovations and repairs in 2017, and is expected to reopen in August.
