Renowned Hong Kong celebrity Louis Koo Tin-lok outdid local billionaires, including Li Ka-shing, with the donation of 1.3 million face masks to those in need.
The face masks were procured through Koo’s charity fund and will be distributed to local welfare groups and those in need including the handicapped, elderly and low income families across the city. According to local reports, the fund will distribute the first batch of 500,000 masks this week.
In addition to a decent celebrity career, Koo is renowned locally for his track record of charity. Prior to his face mask donations in Hong Kong, he had already made a separate $1.9 million donation to a Wuhan-based foundation. As an aside, Koo has also made various appearances within Singapore lender DBS’s marketing efforts including its virtual wealth manager launch last year.
Koo’s 1.3 million face masks more than quintupled the 250,000 from Li Ka-Shing, once enthroned with the title of Asia’s richest. Other notable contributors to the cause include activist and founder of pro-democracy party Demosisto Joshua Wong who reportedly added 100,000 face masks to the local pool. Various parties of all nature have rushed to plug the gap in Hong Kong following a failed logistical showing by local authorities.
