An Asian private banking veteran and longtime UBS executive has retired after four decades with the Swiss lender, finews.asia has learned.
Jean-Claude Humair has retired from UBS earlier this month after 40 years with the Swiss lender, sources told finews.asia, following his last role as group managing director and APAC head of advisory & sales.
Humair will be succeeded by Philippe Spielhofer and Dino Rinaldi as APAC co-heads of advisory & sales reporting to Amy Lo and August Hatecke, APAC co-heads of wealth management.
A spokesperson for the bank confirmed the personnel changes.
25 Years in Asia
Of the 40 years with UBS, Humair built a distinguished career through the establishment of the wealth management franchise in Asia which is now the largest private bank in the region with $576 billion in assets under management.
He first moved to Asia Pacific in 1996 to take on senior market and product roles including the leadership of Japan’s domestic business during its first major growth phase. In 2011, he returned to Hong Kong as the regional market manager for the domestic unit before opening its Kowloon office in 2016. He shifted to become the APAC head of investment platforms and solutions in 2018 and APAC head of advisory & sales in early 2020.
«[Humair] has been a great business partner and friend for over 25 years,» said UBS’ Lo in a LinkedIn post earlier this week. «[Humair], you always bring joy to the people around you and we will miss your sense of humor. Thank you for the leadership and contribution, and we wish you good health and happiness in your next chapter of life!»
