Insurance giant AIA has announced an appointment for the newly created role of head of environmental, social and governance for Singapore.
AIA Singapore has appointed Leong Li Sun as head of ESG, according to a statement, reporting to chief executive Wong Sze Keed.
Leong has been tasked with further embedding ESG commitments in the firm’s operations across five strategic pillars: health and wellness; green operations; sustainable investment; people and culture; and effective governance.
Leong is a certified sustainability practitioner with 10 years of experience in corporate sustainability. Prior to joining AIA Singapore, she was with UOB as its head of corporate sustainability and served as secretariat for UOB Group's sustainability committee.
Climate Change
AIA continues to make progress towards transforming its business to an ESG-friendly model with its most recent move to sell almost $10 billion of investments in coal mining and coal-fired business alongside the commitment to halt new investments in business directly invested in such areas.
«ESG is at the heart of our purpose to help people live healthier, longer, better lives, as our collective future depends on the actions we are taking today,» said Keed, highlighting AIA's net-zero target by 2050.
