Regional asset management specialist Matthews Asia has appointed a new chief executive officer.
Cooper Abbott joins Matthews Asia as CEO, according to a statement, succeeding William Hackett who retired from the role and as a member of the board of directors on June 30 after 13 years with the firm. Hackett will remain with Matthews Asia to serve as an advisor during the transition period.
Abbott has more than 20 years of investment management experience with leadership roles in establishing growth platforms for various businesses. He was most recently the president and chairman of Carillon Tower Advisors where he founded and built a global multi-boutique asset management firm providing equity, fixed income and multi-asset class solutions to institutional and retail investors.
«Following a thorough search to identify a successor, the board believes [Abbott’s] deep knowledge of the investment management industry together with his proven strategic and operational leadership experience will drive further innovation and growth at the firm,» said Matthews Asia chair of the board of directors Chris Carey.
Matthews Asia has been focused on investing in the region and emerging markets since 1991. It is the largest U.S. investment specialist dedicated to Asia and has $18.4 billion in assets under management, as of May 31 this year.
