The Asia specialist brings 34 years of financial and investment experience, including the last 12 years managing investment teams in the Asia Pacific region.
Yu-Ming Wang, former global chief investment officer and deputy president of Nikko Asset Management, has joined Matthews Asia in San Francisco as president and global chief investment officer, the firm announced in a statement on Tuesday.
In the newly created role, Wang will be responsible for the leadership and oversight of the firm's investment team and serve as a member of the firm's Executive Committee. He will work closely with Robert Horrocks, who will continue in his role as chief investment officer and portfolio manager, with no changes to his day to day responsibilities, the statement said.
Wang brings to the firm a wealth of experience on Asia. He joined Nikkei Asset Management in 2013 after heading the fixed income division at Manulife Asset Management (Hong Kong) since 2009. He moved to Hong Kong to head Wachovia Bank's global markets business for the Asian region in 2007, after holding senior roles at its capital markets division in New York for nine years.

Founded in 1991, Matthews is the largest dedicated Asia investment specialist in the United States, with $25.6 billion in assets under management as of January 31, 2020.
Matthews has had a presence in Asia since 2010, when it opened an office in Hong Kong. In 2018, it set up shop in Shanghai, which was followed by a Singapore outpost, focusing on portfolio management activities, company research and client service.
